Our menu is inspired and provided for us by the small farmers, foragers, and artisans of Monterey and neighboring communities because you are where you eat. We’re not trying to set the world on fire…just trying to do things a little better. When tomato season is over, it’s over…we’re not going to call up Peru and tell them to send us what they’ve got. It’s how it was done throughout history. It’s how it should be done again.

COFFEE & ESPRESSO.
rat-tail.jpg Do we know our coffee and espresso?  Do you know any other coffee joint on the peninsula that grinds to order?  Do you know any other bunch of baristas around practicing latte art?  Are their any other local baristas competing in the National Barista Championships?  Just as with Morgan’s Coffee & Tea, we’re setting the gold standard for coffee and espresso on the Monterey Peninsula…again.  Everyone else is just following behind.
marc.jpg And after ten years of roasting award-winning coffees on the Monterey Peninsula, we at The Ol’ Factory have decided to take things a step further. We have brought the offerings of the country’s Number One-rated roaster… Intelligentsia Coffee Roasters. Not only do we feature an extensive selection of the finest coffees roasted daily, but are now working with a coffee company that actively supports organic, sustainable, Direct Trade coffee farming techniques.

The employee owners and managers of The Ol’ Factory don’t just talk sustainability, we do something about it. We research and find the best partners in the country. There are many good coffee companies out there. There are very few that match excellence in the cup with sustainable philosophy.

Small, employee-based companies that are just big enough to force a positive change in the status quo? Absolutely! SUPPORT ETHICAL COFFEE!

After all, this ain’t coffee for dummies. This is coffee for the intelligentsia.

.
TEA.
Okay, if you’re going to bring in the country’s best coffee company, then you’ve got to follow up with an award-winning tea importer. Back in 1999, when we first introduced Rishi Tea to the Monterey peninsula, Rishi was just being recognized by the tea industry as the Best New Tea Importer in the country.

BEER.
Just want a beer?  There are plenty of pubs around.  The Ol’ Factory is a beer experience.  We have recently been called “The best beer bar on the Monterey Peninsula…in fact, the best beer bar ever on the Monterey Peninsula” (TheBeerGeek.com). Who knew that garnering such praise could be such fun in the making. We have been sampling and bringing in some of the most unusual and incredible beers and ales on the planet.
beer5.jpg Belgian Grand Cru, German Dark Hefe-Weizen, Japanese Red Rice Beer, American Bourbon Barrel-aged Ale, Russian Imperial Stout, Canadian Hot Cherry Ale, Alaskan smoked porter, Austrian Lemon Radler, breakfast beers, dessert beers, a dopplebock brewed only one day a year that we pair with 73% organic dark chocolate… and all served in the proper glassware.

WINE.
Sometimes small is beautiful (I said sometimes.) If you want to choose from a winelist of 900 labels, this probably isn’t the place for you. We just don’t have that sort of room in our tiny “cellar.” But we are assembling a short list of eclectic wines that you won’t readily find elsewhere on the peninsula. We plan to keep it local. And we plan to keep it affordable.

Among others, we proudly feature wines from Parsonage, Galante, Ventana, De Tierra, and Martin Alfaro.
wine3.jpg So if you are looking for unusual, exceptional, and reasonably-priced, and local wines by the glass, then maybe this is your sort of little wine bar. And the small plates will only enhance the experience.

That’s it, short and sweet.
